VA Aid & Attendance Pension

If you’re a veteran or the spouse of a veteran, you may qualify for financial assistance under the VA Aid and Attendance Pension (also known as the A&A Program). In 2022, this pension provides up to $3,261 a month for veterans and surviving spouses who need help with daily care needs like bathing, dressing, removing prosthetics, transportation and medication management.

How do I qualify?

Determining eligibility can take time and requires thorough documentation. Here’s what you need to qualify:

  • Must have served on active duty for at least 90 consecutive days, including at least one full day during a time of war.
  • Must be 65 or older or have a permanent disability or receive supplemental security income, or receive social security disability insurance or reside in a senior living community. 
  • Must be bedridden except for medical and therapy appointments and treatments, or have severe visual impairment, or require help with activities of daily living
  • Have a net worth of less than $138,489 excluding the applicant’s automobile, personal effects and residence.

Who do I contact?

To find out if you’re eligible for this benefit, contact the US Department of Veterans Affairs or U.S. Senior Vets, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, whose primary function is to educate Veterans, surviving spouses, and their families in obtaining Aid Attendance and Housebound Pension Benefits, with questions regarding the A&A qualification and application process.
